Kimbra Calls Gotye Grammys Win 'A Night We're Never Going To Forget'

Duo took home Record of the Year for 'Somebody That I Used to Know.'

Don't get Gotye wrong, accepting Grammy Awards is great.

But even after his triple win on Sunday night, the Australian star and his collaborator, Kimbra, still had stars in their eyes about the presenter of their Record of the Year
 trophy for breakout hit "Somebody That I Used to Know."

Backstage after the ceremony, when MTV's Sway Calloway asked the pair how they were feeling after their big win, they remained a bit shell-shocked.

Gotye And Kimbra React To Grammy Wins

"That's about all we can say [is], 'Huh? What? Yo, what?" joked a still-stunned Kimbra about the big victory for the duo over the likes of such fellow Grammy winners as Frank Ocean, Black Keys, Fun. and nominee Taylor Swift. When Sway noted that most people might not have even known Kimbra's name a year ago unless they were an "enthusiast," she added, "Let alone having Prince announce it!"

"I started listening to Prince when I was a young teenager," said Gotye about his fascination with the music icon who presented him with the golden gramophone after lavishing praise on "Someone."

"The man plays so many instruments so amazingly, produces, writes songs, writes amazing songs. Has the best voice in history, I think. I saw him play recently. Man, the guy can sing like nothing else."

Kimbra said the pair was discussing before the telecast the fact that the reclusive Purple One was even going to be at the show and, "the odds of him of him actually presenting our award and actually having that eye contact with him on stage ... through the shades ... It's a night that we're never going to forget. I think these things are great for the awards, but then also to share them with people that have actually inspired you to make the music that receives the awards ... that's another level."

Gotye, born Wouter De Backer, had spent much of his acceptance speech earlier in the night gushing about Prince as well. "I'm a little bit lost for words," De Backer said while on stage. "To receive an award from the man standing behind us here with the cane, I spent many years listening to this man's music growing up and a big reason I was inspired to make music, thank you."

The song, from Gotye's third album, 2011's Making Mirrors, hit the top 10 in more than 30 counties and has sold more than 13 million copies around the world.
