Back in December, when Google finally launched its Maps app for iOS, it also released Google Maps SDK for iOS so that developers working on iOS apps could throw in Google Maps instead of Apple's beleaguered mapping application. And instead of developers having to register and wait for approval to use the API keys, they are now available from Google's API Console. The Google Maps SDK for iOS was updated on Thursday evening and now includes support for ground overlays, gesture control and geodesic polylines. Additionally, Google has released a sample app in the SDK that show developers how to use Google Maps in their apps.
Now that developers can use Google Maps in their work, why would they use Apple Maps? Truthfully, there might be some developers who want to give the option of which map application to use, to the app user. That is what the developer of the Sunrise calendar app did. If you're a developer working with iOS and want to know how you can include Google Maps by using the Google Maps SDK for iOS v 1.1, click on the video below.
