Adele's Oscar Gives Her Half An EGOT: Who Will Join Her?

From Justin Timberlake to Katy Perry, we look at other stars who mightalso EGOT one day.

At Sunday night's Oscars, Adele took home "Best Original Song" honors for her sonorous "Skyfall" theme, only adding to her already overstuffed trophy case and taking another step towards accomplishing what most folks refer to as "the Grand Slam of Show Business:" an EGOT.

For the uninitiated, "EGOT" is an acronym first coined by "Miami Vice" actor Philip Michael Thomas (no, really) and made popular by "30 Rock." It refers to the accomplishment of winning the four major American entertainment awards — the Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony — and, though it's been a possibility since 1959 (when the first Grammys were held) only a handful of folks have ever done it.

Yes, it's a pretty exclusive, decidedly odd club — Aubrey Hepburn, Mel Brooks and Whoopi Goldberg are members — and there are plenty of stars who may or may not actually have EGOTed (Liza Minnelli, James Earl Jones and Barbara Streisand have won all four awards, though in each case, at least one of those was in a non-competitive category) or are really, really close to doing so (Elton John, Cher and "South Park" creators Matt Parker and Trey Stone, to name just a few).

And with her collection of Grammys and brand-new Oscar, Adele seems like a sure bet to pull off a true EGOT (especially if she follows through with plans for a Beyonce-style TV documentary). But she's not alone ... there are plenty of her musical contemporaries who seem poised to one day pull off an EGOT. Here's a look at some hopefuls.

Jennifer Hudson: She won an Oscar for her role in "Dreamgirls" and a Grammy for her debut album, meaning that, like Adele, she's halfway home. She's also appearing on NBC's "Smash," meaning an Emmy is a possibility (a distant one, but still), and, of course, she seems like a natural fit for Broadway. We're willing to bet she EGOTs someday.

Beyonce: She's already got the Grammys, and if she continues with roles in films like "Dreamgirls" an Oscar seems like a mere formality (if not for acting, then in the Best Original Song category). The same goes for her Emmy prospects, especially in the wake of her massively successful HBO doc "Life Is but a Dream." The only thing standing in her way seems to be the Tony, which would probably require her to put her music career on hold for a role on Broadway.

Justin Timberlake: As you are probably aware, he considers himself quite the actor, and if he picks more critical faves like "The Social Network," there's a chance he might take home an Oscar at some point. Oh, and you know he's already got the Grammys. If he decides to do another HBO performance, he might snag an Emmy ... the toughest of the four is probably the Tony, though maybe he could pen an original score or something?

Zooey Deschanel: Sure, she hasn't actually won any of the big four yet, but with her continued musical output (a new She & Him album is due this year), starring role on "New Girl" (she earned her an Emmy nom in 2012), continued work in film and a Broadway run as Loretta Lynn on the horizon, she could be EGOT-ing with the quickness.

Katy Perry: Like Deschanel, Katy's 0-for-4 in EGOT categories (seriously, she's never even won a Grammy), but we're willing to bet that she'll at least knock the "G" off the list in the near future. A TV special — or another guest star slot — could land her an Emmy, and, sure, we could see her attached to a musical one day (hey, if the Spice Girls can do it ...). An Oscar might prove tough, especially since we don't see the Academy honoring her work in "The Smurfs" any time soon, but she came close to landing a Best Original Song nod with "Wide Awake," so who knows.
