If you haven't already heard all the buzz about the movie "Spring Breakers" you're not properly keeping up with stars Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Benson — or you missed our exclusive premiere of the trailer earlier this month.
What you need to know about the Harmony Korine-directed film is that it is not at all your typical spring break party-themed movie and that the performances from the lovely leading ladies are unlike anything they've ever done before. As such, if you're expecting to see anything squeaky-clean in the film, prepare to be shocked.
Selena Gomez Says Younger Fans Will Have To Wait For 'Spring Breakers'
MTV News recently caught up with Gomez to talk about her involvement in the provocative film, specifically about its forthcoming hard R-rating and how it may affect her fans' image of her. "I do everything for my fans," Gomez said. "I know that I have a younger following and I so appreciate that and I'm so thankful for that. But I did warn them in my best ability as I could. When I see the parents I'm like, 'Maybe [your children] don't go and see this one.' "
But for her fans who are old enough to see the film, Gomez said that she has complete faith in their abilities to understand fiction vs. fact and real-life not imitating art.
"My fans that are my age, I went to Toronto and we premiered it at the festival and there were girls my age that were laughing at the parts they needed to laugh at, scared at the parts they needed to be scared at," she recalled. "And I feel like I didn't even give them enough credit because they understood what this film was. It's an art piece and it's real, it's so raw, and I think they're going to understand why I did it. I mean for the younger fans, maybe they'll wait a little bit, but I don't know. I think it was a good thing for me and my fans were super supportive."
