Kris Allen Posts Gnarly Car Crash Photo, Preps For Wrist Surgery

'Gonna get this hand back to 100% no matter what it takes,' Allen promises.

Kris Allen was not kidding about how intense his New Year's day car crash
 was. After his mother, Kimberley, posted a picture of the former "American Idol" winner laid up in the hospital with surgical wrap around his right arm and a neck brace, the singer upped the ante on Thursday by revealing a scary, twisted-metal image of the wreck's aftermath.

Under the heading, "Glad to make it out of this #outalive," Allen Instagram'd the pic of his crumpled Ford truck. The entire front end of the vehicle appears to have been crushed in what Kimberley Allen described as a head-on collision.

The season eight "Idol" champ, who also revealed this week that he and wife Katy Allen are expecting their first child this year, told fans that Friday (January 4) will be a busy day for him, as he's going under the knife to surgically repair his broken wrist.
"Getting ready for surgery tomorrow morning," Allen tweeted on Thursday. "Gonna get this hand back to 100% no matter what it takes." Allen has been adamant that despite his injuries he's still determined to hit the road in a few weeks for his Out Alive tour.
The outing is slated to kick off at the Pickle Barrel in Killington, Vermont on Tuesday. He's currently slated to stay on the road through an April 28 gig at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton, Massachusetts.
