Demand for BlackBerry 10 strong... in Canada

BlackBerry 10 is only a few weeks away. We've seen the platform in action. We've heard about the new features, and the devices. Three of the big four American carriers have said they will offer BB10 devices. Now, we're getting some indication of consumer demand for the new platform, at least from one carrier in Canada.

Rogers, the largest mobile carrier in Canada, has been taking reservations for BlackBerry 10 since mid-December. Rogers won't release any official numbers for the reservations, but it did tell BGR that they "can say that customer interest is definitely strong and reservations continue daily."

Of course, that doesn't have any real meaning, because there are no real numbers and of course Canadians are a bit more attached to their BlackBerries than Americans are. As of August 2012, BlackBerry still held 27% of the Canadian smartphone market, behind Android at 36% and the iPhone at 29%. So, the market makeup is quite different, and it's much harder to say that strong demand from Canada translates across the border.
