Mozilla updates Firefox to support ARMv6 processors - about half of all Android handsets

Mozilla updates Firefox to support ARMv6 processors - about half of all Android handsetsMozilla has been trying to establish its mobile Firefox browser as a prominent offering in the Android ecosystem, but it seems like its numerous competitors haven't left much space for it. With its latest move, however, the foundation might find itself one step closer to its goal.

The Firefox browser for Android has just been updated to support handsets which use ARMv6-based processors. Even though this technology is a bit old, Mozilla believes that about 50% of all Android devices in use today are powered by such chips. Some of the more popular models using ARMv6 SoCs include the HTC AriaHTC LegendLG Optimus OneMotorola CLIQ XTSamsung Galaxy AceSony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini and Acer Liquid mini.

In addition, Firefox for Android has gotten a number of accessibility features, like TalkBack integration, as well as support for Explore by Touch and Gesture Navigation for visually-impaired users.
