Wearable devices expected to be a $6 billion ecosystem in just 3 years

Google Glass is out in what is essentially a developer beta, and multiple companies are rumored to be working on smartwatch devices including Apple's infamous iWatchGoogleSamsungLG, and Microsoft. Wearable computing is on the verge and some analysts say that when it makes the leap, it could become a $6 billion ecosystem in just 3 years.

That prediction comes from IMS Research, but the sentiment is echoed by others, including Evernote CEO Phil Libin. Evernote is one of the few app makers who was in on the ground floor with Google Glass, and the reasoning seems pretty simple, Libin believes:
You can draw comparisons to successful technologies like the smartphone. In the first two, three years, it was a niche product. I expect it to be the same sort of thing. It’s going to start becoming very profitable in three to five years. These are long-term investments
Multiple research firms including IDC and IHS agree that wearable computing will be making the leap in popularity very quickly. IHS has even gone on record saying that Google Glass could see shipments of 6.6 million by 2016. Time will tell though.
