Nvidia SHIELD will be a $349 Android game console coming in June

Nvidia has just unveiled the details around its SHIELD (previously known as Project Shield) gaming console that will probably be the first device to roll out featuring Nvidia’s Tegra 4 and Android Jelly Bean. SHIELD will cost $349, arrive in June and feature “a console-grade controller.”

Shield comes with a 5-inch multi-touch display, 16 gigs of internal storage expandable via microSD cards, GPS, Bluetooth and HDMI output. But the highlight of course is the Tegra 4 with its 72 graphical cores working along with a quad-core CPU and 2 gigs of RAM.

“These pieces, put together by a company full of gaming fanatics, add up to an amazing new open platform gaming portable,” Nvidia said. “It’s the best way to play Android games. And because it’s an Android device, it works with both Tegra-optimized and regular Android games –- as well as Android apps.”
Pre-orders will kick on May 20th which is less than a week away so get ready to break the piggy bank soon.
