Nokia Lumia 520 already the top Windows Phone in India

Pre-orders for Nokia’s entry-level Windows Phone were a strong indicator of success for the Lumia 520. Flipkart saw the Lumia 520 jump to second best selling smartphone in just a couple days.

Now, based on the app data that AdDuplex is seeing, the Nokia Lumia 520 is already the top Windows Phone in India, surpassing the capable Lumia 620 in less than a month.

How did the Lumia 520 do it? Well its price point is obviously the main attraction. Initially listed for ₹10,499 ($197), it is now available on Flipkart for only ₹9,999 ($185). For the price though, you get the full Windows Phone 8 experience, all the Nokia experience applications and other nice features. While loaded with only 8GB of storage, it supports microSD cards up to 64GB to provide more than enough room to store your goodies.

For less than $200 SIM free, that is a compelling proposition and reinforces Nokia’s strategy to grab market share in developing markets with affordable hardware that still delivers the Nokia experience. That said, Nokia’s dominance with Windows Phone in India is in line with its market share around the world.
