Nearly half of U.S. teens have an iPhone, 62% plan to get one

While we have just heard the first negative reports about this quarter’s low iPhone demand from Foxconn, looking at the U.S. market alone the iPhone is still extremely popular and a huge majority of teens plan on buying an iPhone in the future.

Nearly half of of US teens (48%) already own an iPhone and a whopping 62% plan on buying one in the future, according to a bi-annual survey by Piper Jaffrey. In comparison only 21% plan on getting an Android device, and a meager 5% want a Windows-based gadget.

Tablet adoption is also quickly moving forward as more than half of teens had a tablet device. The number was 51% in the Spring of 2013 versus 44% last fall. Apple’s iPad share declined slightly from 72% to 68% but the iPad is still the dominant tablet among U.S. teens.

Interestingly, nearly four times more teens plan on buying the larger 9.7-inch iPad rather than the iPad mini.

The survey asked a total of 5200 teens, 1600 from high-income families and 3600 from average-income households. It’s fill-packed with intersting trends not just about teens’ preference about gadgets, but also about clothes, and so much more.
