Next generation HTC Butterfly smartphone is in the works

It seems like ever since the HTC One was made official, everyone suddenly lost interest in the other high-end Android smartphone in the company's current portfolio. Of course, we're talking about the HTC Butterfly, known as the HTC DROID DNA in the U.S., which was actually among the very first smartphones to boast a 1080p, 5-inch display. Yet sales figures indicate otherwise.

The HTC Butterfly, which launched in Taiwan and Japan in December of 2012, has been enjoying strong sales ever since. In fact, it even sold better than Apple's iPhone 5 for a while via Japanese carrier CDDI, and it probably would have sold even better if it wasn't held back by a shortage in supply.

So, what is HTC to do when it has a hot, well-selling smartphone on its hands? Make a sequel, naturally. Ben Ho, who is the Taiwanese company's Chief Marketing Officer, revealed that a successor to the HTC Butterfly is in the works, bound to be announced in the near future. He even hinted that the follow-up might retain the "Butterfly" name, thus paving the way for future large-screened handsets to join the series.

Nothing more was said about the next-generation HTC Butterfly, but we hope to learn more on the matter soon. What kind of upgrades would you like to see implemented in the new model?
