Microsoft says fix for "other" storage issue will come, offers a solution

The mysterious "other" is eating up storage on Windows Phone 8 models

Windows Phone 8 users might have noticed that thestorage on their phone is being eaten up by a mysterious category called "other." A tweet from Window Phone's Joe Belfiore not only admits the existence of the problem, but also hints that a fix will probably be sent via a future update. At the same time, Belfiore suggests that users disable Windows Phone's SkyDrive auto-upload feature for photos. This is an application that automatically will send your pictures to the cloud.

Judging from the tone of the tweets that have been sent to Joe, along with the number of threads that this problem consumes on the Windows Phone website, this is a hot-button issue that is affecting a lot of users. One app that seems to help, if you believe user's comments, is called Shrink Storage which is available from the Windows Phone Store. A few users said they were able to re-claim 1GB of space and more. It's a free download and is designed to fix the "other" storage issue.
