According to a flyer from Media World, sometime between March 7th and March 24th, two Windows Phone 8 models will be released in Italy. The Huawei Ascend W1 is the least expensive handset on the platform and will be priced at 199 EUR ($259 USD) while the Nokia Lumia 620 rings the ol' register at 249 EUR ($325 USD). These are both off-contract prices.
Introduced in Las Vegas during this past January's CES, the Huawei Ascend W1 is not going to set off your specs-o-meter. Equipped with a 4 inch WVGA LCD display, the pixel density reaches 233ppi. Under the hood is a dual-core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8230 with the Adreno 305 GPU working on the graphics. 512MB of RAM is on board along with 4GB of native storage that can be expanded using the 32GB microSD slot. The rear and front-facing cameras are 5MP and .3MP respectively, and everything is powered with a 1950mAh battery.
Meanwhile, the Nokia Lumia 620, thanks to its somewhat smaller 3.8 inch WVGA screen, has a slightly higher 246ppi pixel density. A dual-core 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Plus MSM8227 is driving the device which has an Adreno 305 GPU working on all things graphic. 512MB of RAM and 8GB of native storage are on board with a 64GB capacity microSD slot available to expand storage. The 5MP rear-facing camera captures video in 720p at 30fps, and there is a front facing .3MP camera for self portraits. A 1300mAh battery keeps the lights on.
Sometime in the next two weeks, both of these models will be available in Italy for the Windows Phone 8 user who doesn't need all of the bells and whistles, but wants a reliable model that won't cost an arm or leg.
