German Chancellor Angela Merkel is reportedly all-in with a BlackBerry Z10 due to its security features, and other agencies in the German government are following suit.
There are still staffers that will continue to use Samsung Android devices, but word has it that 5,000 Z10s have made, or will be making their way into the hands of other government employees. That will mean that about half of the government issued devices will be BlackBerry handsets. The other half being the aforementioned Samsung devices (Galaxy S II and Galaxy S III). The deal was struck by the Procurement Office of the Ministry of the Interior and the Federal office for Information Security (BSI) with Düsseldorf Secusmart and T-Systems, who provide IT security applications to the government.
Thanks to BlackBerry Balance, users will be able to have some personalization while the IT folks will still be able to maintain control and implement policies to protect sensitive materials and communications. Secusmart installs a security solution which assists with that endeavor. Everything, from phone calls to emails, internet or VPN access and PIM data is encrypted.
This is a bulls-eye for BlackBerry, and a much needed one as the manufacturer has maintained its focus on enterprise and government clients throughout the development of BlackBerry 10.
