The next frontier for sports is your smartphone and tablet. Fox announced its long awaited ESPN challenger on Monday, but from our viewpoint, the exciting part of the announcement is the new Sports app called Fox Sports GO that will be available for iOS and Android devices. The app and the service are absolutely free as long as you can be verified as a subscriber to certain cable, satellite or telco providers. It is the same process that the CNN app uses to let you watch live streaming video of the network. Right now, only subscribers to Mediacom and VerizonFiOS can view the service, but that list should grow.
The app will offer over 1,000 live games and events from FOX Sports, FOX Sports 1 and FOX Sports' 22 regional sports networks, as well as scores, highlights, news, stats, and analysis. There was no word on whether or not we will see this offered eventually on Windows Phone or BlackBerry 10. Fox Sports GO will launch on August 17th, so circle your calendar and be ready then to download it from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
