LG Optimus G Pro to launch "next week" in Korea

With the LG Optimus G Pro already scheduled to head to South Korea, LG has announced on Monday that the device will be available in South Korea "next week," giving smartphone buyers in the country a home-court advantage over the rest of the world. The specs are now confirmed. The device will be equipped with a 5.5 inch FHD display which works out to a pixel density of 401ppi. That might be less than the 441ppi seen on the screen of 5 inch models with a 1080 x 1920 resolution like the HTC DROID DNA, the Huawei Ascend D2Sony Xperia Z and the ZTE Grand S to name a few, but still beats out other high-res screens like the one on the BlackBerry Z10 (356ppi) and the Apple iPhone 5 (326ppi).

The LG Optimus G Pro will launch in South Korea next week
Under the hood of the LG Optimus G Pro will be a quad-core 1.7GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with 2GB of RAM on board. The 32GB of native storage on the phone can be expanded with the 32GB capacity microSD slot. A 3140mAh removable battery should keep the lights on for a long time, and when it comes time to recharge the cell, the phone supports wireless recharging. The cameras on the device weigh in at 13MP and 2MP for the rear and front-facing shooters respectively. LTE connectivity is supported on the LG Optimus G Pro, which will come with Android 4.1.2 out of the box.

As you can see from the pictures, LG sliced the width of the bezel to give the display an edge-to-edge appearance. QSlide has been improved, still allowing you to turn one app transparent so that you can use another at the same time. Using curved glass on the display gives it what LG calls a "2.5D" effect and high-quality photos can be taken even with a moving subject. The phone has been priced at 968,000 Korean Won which works out to about $897 U.S. Dollars.

Based on the release, it looks like a North American launch of the LG Optimus G would take place sometime in the second quarter.
