'We don't gotta move into a crib to know more about each other,' Rico tells MTV before tonight's premiere on MTV at 10 p.m. ET.
They say when one door closes another one opens up, but don't tie the sunset at the "Jersey Shore" with the rise of MTV's new docu-series "Washington Heights" so closely.
"Just because 'Jersey Shore' finishing around the same time that we're beginning, I feel like people are thinking that it's gonna be the same thing, but once they get to see the show they're gonna know immediately that it's not the same thing," castmember Fred told MTV News of "Washington Heights" which airs on Wednesday (January 9) at 10 p.m. ET.
' Washington Heights' Is No 'Jersey Shore'
After six party-hinged seasons, the "Jersey Shore" cast closed the doors on their beloved beach house on a tear-filled series finale December 20. Now, less than a month later we are introduced to a new group of twentysomethings who will play their lives out every week, but Situation and JWoww they are not.
"Heights" centers on the lives of nine principle characters, who dream beyond their tight-knit New York City neighborhood yet represent their home at every turn. There's JP a.k.a. Audubon, the aspiring rapper, and Jimmy, the rising baseball star. Frankie pours her heart into her poetry, and Ludwin expresses himself through his art. Reyna, Rico, Fred, Taylor and Eliza round out the bunch, placing a premium on their aspirations, but they won't hold back when it's time to celebrate.
"Yeah, sure, everybody wants to party, but you know what? We out here working too," said Rico. "We tryin' to make it somewhere too, it's not just wildness and all that."
Rico also goes on to point out that the "Washington Heights" clique is no casted "Jersey Shore" crew. "They met each other in that house. We're a group of individuals that we've been knowing each other, we don't gotta move into a crib to know more about each other," he differentiated.
Taylor describes the "WH" group as more emotional than Snookie and her gang of meatballs, but ultimately, they are all just trying to make a way for themselves.

"We were already goin' on our paths. The show is not to make us famous; we don't care for that," said JP. "We care to set ourselves up for success."
