Honda announces vehicles that will support Siri’s Eyes Free mode

American Honda Motor Company announced that the 2013 Honda Accord, along with its luxury brand Acura RDX and ILX, will integrate support for Siri’s Eyes Free mode.

This feature was introduced by Apple at last year’s WWDC and already had commitments from several auto manufacturers, including General Motors, Audi, Toyota, Honda and others. GM has since announced that its 2013 Chevy Spark and Sonic models will be the first to be integrated with Eye’s Free mode.

Now, Honda has announced that its popular Accord model, as well as the Acura RDX (small SUV) and ILX (compact sedan based on the Honda Civic), will be able to have this feature as a dealer-installed option. Siri’s Eyes Free enables the user to use the personal assistant without having to handle the device. The screen remains off so alerts and images do not distract the driver.

It is too soon to know if this feature will help alleviate cases of distracted driving, but every little bit helps. That said, it would have been good for Honda to include the Civic and Fit models as part of the initial rollout, those are two relatively affordable models popular with young drivers.
