Analyst: Businesses buy 3 to 4 million Apple iPhone 5 units in the current quarter

According to Trip Chowdhry, a managing director at Global Equities Research, the Apple iPhone 5 is ringing up some decent smartphone sales in the corporate boardroom. In a recent report to clients, Chowdhry said that 3 to 4 million units of Apple's iconic smartphone were sold to businesses in the current quarter.

The figure comes from a combination of new purchasers of the Apple iPhone and those who switched from a BlackBerry model after their contract expired. The majority of those with a expired two-year contract who were using an older Apple iPhone model are receiving a new Apple iPhone 5 from their employer says Chowdhry. He also says that he saw similar strong enterprise purchases of the Apple iPhone in March and April of 2012.

According to Chowdry, businesses are switching to the Apple iPhone after seeing salespeople for business related apps like Salesforce, Workday and VMware use the device to publicize their apps. The increasing use of Evernote by companies is also leading many of them to switch to the Apple iPhone In addition, the creation of new software has helped beef up the Apple iPhone's security, making the selection of the smartphone for business use a lot easier one to sell the board of directors on.
