Analyst Tavis McCourt, who works for Raymond James, decided that with all of the negative talk that has surrounded Apple lately, he would compare sales of the Apple iPhone 4, Apple iPhone 4S and the Apple iPhone 5 against sales of the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung GALAXY Note series. The result? Apple outsold Samsung by 88 million units over the last 2 and a half years. The final tally was 219 million Apple iPhone handsets sold versus 131 million units of the Samsung Galaxy S series and the larger-screened Samsung GALAXY Note models that were sold by the Korean manufacturer.
While the Samsung Galaxy S II needed some time to become the superstar handset it became, sales of the Samsung Galaxy S III built on the sensational response to its predecessor and peaked after the launch of the Apple iPhone 5. That is according to Kevin Packingham, chief product officer for Samsung's U.S. mobile division, who says the Samsung Galaxy S III remains a top seller at all carriers.
The analyst noted that despite the perceived loss of momentum at Apple, the Apple iPhone grew its lead over the Samsung Galaxy S and the Samsung GALAXY Note over the course of the last year.
