LES Miserables star Hugh Jackman has revealed he has already set his sights on an even bigger role, with ambitions to take over from Daniel Craig as James Bond.
The Australian-born actor - who joined co-stars included Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway and Amanda Seyfried at the UK premiere of Les Miserables on Wednesday night - previously turned down the chance to play 007, but admitted that he regrets the decision.
Speaking to The Sun the 44-year-old - who is the same age as Craig - joked: ‘I will just wait. The thing about Daniel is that he’s, what, 62 now isn’t he? He’s falling apart at the seams.
‘So I just keep telling him, “I’m ready, whenever you want to let him go.” The good thing is I also have a British passport.’
However Jackman added that despite choosing to focus on the X-Men franchise instead of stepping into the secret agent’s shoes for the 2006 film Casino Royale, he has no hard feelings towards Craig - whom he starred alongside in the 2009 Broadway production A Steady Rain. ‘At the time it was wrong for me but when I saw Daniel in the movie I thought I should have been more interested, because it was great,’ he confessed.
