Google quietly updated its frameworks for in-app billing on Android, bringing the platform to version 3. The update is aimed at making it easier and more efficient for developers to add in-app billing options to Android apps, and try to reduce the number of instances where transactions are lost. And, since this is Google, the whole system has been optimized to be faster as well.
The new update features local caching to speed up API call response times in the app by finding information locally rather than over the network. The framework is also now synchronous so it can report the results of a purchase immediately. All of the updates combined actually make it far easier for developers to implement, because it now only requires one line of code, rather than four.
The update will be made available for subscriptions soon, and is ready for action on any device running Android 2.2 or higher with the newest version of Google Play.
