Google on a carrier network of its own: meh, too much red tape

The Vice President of Google Access Services Milo Medin let it slip in an interview that El Googilho was actually considering a pilot build of its own carrier network, to go with its Google Fiber high-speed Internet project.

“We looked at doing that. The cost of actually delivering telephone services is almost nothing. However, in the United States, there are all of these special rules that apply,” he mentioned during a panel discussions with city officials.

With Google Fiber arriving in two Kansas City locations, it would have been a nuisance to deploy a wireless carrier service, too, as the tax considerations would have to include a “fair amount of work on billing systems”. 

In other worst, it is not the technology going into getting its own wireless network up and running that Google is concerned about - after all some of the world's most brilliant engineers can be found there - but rather the government red tape they have to cut through for introducing one.
