Google Currents, the magazine-style "edition" reader launched by Google last year, is now getting an update to version 2.0. The update brings a host of new features to the application, which offers full-length stories from major publications that can be read on or off-line. Any of your Google Reader feeds can be turned into a magazine style experience with the app. Google Currents also adapts on its own to different screen sizes and your subscriptions are synced across devices.

The update includes a new Edition sidebar which allows you to quickly scan your editions inside categories like News, Sports, Business, etc. A vertical swipe lets you scan an edition while a horizontal swipe takes you to the next one. You can personalize stories by selecting "customize" to filter out sections that you don't want to read. And to save you the time that you might waste by reading over a story you've already read, there will be a markingfor those stories that you have looked at.

Some other new features to Google Currents include a Breaking News section ranked by Google News with links to the full-length stories. Saved stories can be "starred" for future reference and there is a new catalog design. Google Currents is a free download from the Google Play Store.
