Recently, there has been speculation based on a GL Benchmark listing that the ASUS ME172V is going to be a $99 Google Nexus 7. If you thought that demand for the Google Nexus 4 was crazy, wait until you see what awaits Google if they do indeed offer a 7 inch Google Experience tablet for less than $100. The specs from GL Benchmark point to a 7 inch screen with resolution of 1024 x 600. A single-core 1GHz processor and 1GB of RAM are said to be inside. 8GB of native storage comes with the tablet and that can be expanded by using the microSD port. A 4270mAh battery keeps the lights on. Surprisingly, Android 4.1.1 is listed as being installed on the tablet. That would seem to be unusual for a new Nexus device which should have Android 4.2 installed at this point, like the Google Nexus 4 has had since its launch last month.
Of course, the information seen on the GL Benchmark could be bogus. Or it could be a tablet that has nothing to do with the Google Nexus line. Either way, what we do know is that two new ASUS Wi-Fi enabled tablets are apparently coming to the U.S. and we can think of a lot of other news that would be worse.
