Aptina outs camera sensor that lets phones do professional high-speed and HDR video recording

Aptina just issued a press release detailing the next advancement in smartphone footage - an 8 MP sensor that can do real 60fps recording without pixel binning, and at the full 16:9 width of the frame. 

The sensor takes 6 MP stream and oversamples it 3x, for "video as sharp as that of the high-end multi-sensor video cameras used in television studios." 

Bold statement, and we'd love to see the first results when phones with this sensor appear, as Aptina said the mass production of those is going on as we speak. 

The other goodies with this module will include hardwired HDR stills and video, just like with Sony's new Exmor RS unit, and also on-chip binning to do HD recording at the even faster 120fps. Action camera indeed.
