Android may be 70% of smartphone shipments in 2013, Windows Phone up 150%

After quite a few recent projections by analysts that didn't seem to be based on much more than common knowledge, this is one bit of analysis that we think could be somewhat valuable. Digitimes Research, a firm that often uses inside knowledge of the actual supply chains for info, has said that Android may be 70% of smartphone shipments in 2013, and Windows Phone could be up 150% over its shipments from this past year.

The research team is estimating that Android manufacturers will ship around 600 million devices next year, which will put the platform well in front with 70% of the market. Apple is expected to come in second with 20% of the market made up by its iPhone with approximately 171.4 million in shipments. The other 10% is expected to be a mixture of all of the other relatively minor mobile platforms that are around. 

Leading the rest of the field is expected to be Windows Phone with 52.5 million shipments, which would be a 150% jump over this year, and put it at 6.1% share of shipments. BlackBerry is expected to be around 3.7% of shipments. And, that leaves just 0.2% of the market to be filled with Symbian, bada, webOS, Tizen, Firefox, and all the rest.
