Unidentified Korean maker branching out to Largan Precision for 2013 high-end phone cameras

Unidentified Korean maker branching out to Largan Precision for 2013 high-end phone camerasLargan Precision is receiving orders for its advanced smartphone camera lens modules from a mysterious Korean company, supply chain sources indicate. Now the mystery could be either Samsung or LG, but we'd keep in mind that LG Innotek already developed an 8 MP and 13 MP BSI sensors of its own, that found a way into the Nexus 4 and the Optimus G.

The order quantity indicated it will go into the single digits of the manufacturer's smartphones, so it is unlikely to hit high-ends like a Galaxy S IV which sell in the tens of millions, but it might be just a pilot batch.

This is a nice segway from the usual Korea-sourced camera modules, which are nothing to write home about. Largan is behind the lens for the iPhone 5, and has the capacity to supplement the limited yield of Korean manufacturers.
