Twilight overtakes Skyfall at box office

THE Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2 has opened in first place at the UK box office.

The Twilight finale earns £15.8 million from 558 locations, making it the second biggest debut of 2012 in the UK. Breaking Dawn - Part 2’s first-weekend earnings outstrip those of the The Avengers (£15m) and The Dark Knight Rises (£14m), but fall behind Skyfall’s £20 million bow.Breaking Dawn - Part 2 also posts the biggest debut of all the Twilight movies in the UK. Predecessor Breaking Dawn - Part 1 pulled in £13.91m in 2011, Eclipse £13.76m in 2010, New Moon £11.68m in 2009 and Twilight £2.51m in 2008.Skyfall falls to number two on its third weekend on release, losing 47 per cent in ticket sales to earn £5.5m. Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted falls a spot to number three.
