Sharp Aquos SH930W will launch in Hong Kong as well as in Russia; device offers 5 inch, 1080p screen

We've already told you all about the Sharp Aquos SH930W which is Sharp's entry in the 5 inch smartphone market. Not only has Sharp matched the HTC DROID DNA with a similar 5 inch, 1080p display protected by Gorilla Glass, but both phones have the same 441ppi pixel density. We've already passed along the word that the phone will be released in Russia, and on Friday Sharp added Hong Kong to the itinerary. In Hong Kong the phone will cost 4,488 HKD which is roughly $580 USD. In Russia, the Sharp Aquos SH930W will be priced at 21,990 Rubles ($713 USD).

The rest of the specs on the device include a somewhat disappointing dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor (MSM8960?) under the hood. But Sharp rights itself with the inclusion of 2GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage. An 8MP camera is on back while a 2MP shooter on front is just the thing for those self-portraits and video chats. A 2100mAh battery powers the handset and Android 4.1 will be installed out of the box. The unit is just 9.1mm thick. A couple of weeks ago, we showed you a comparison of the screen on the Sharp model vs. a couple of high-end models like the HTC One X and the Samsung Galaxy S III.

Sharp has come up with its own charts comparing the Sharp Aquos SH930W with other models, again using the Samsung Galaxy S III, but this time adding the HTC One X+, the Samsung GALAXY Note II, and the LG Optimus Vu. While the phone isn't expected to come to the U.S., this could be an indication of where the market for Android phones is going in 2013. 5 inch screens with full HD resolution seem to be where the OEMs are heading. And to put the period on the statement, all indications are that the Samsung Galaxy S IV will be in the 5 inch club as well.
