THE Prince of Wales showed off his rock and roll dance moves in Christchurch, but initially had to be persuaded by the Duchess of Cornwall to join in. The royal couple was visiting Christchurch in New Zealand to learn how its residents have rebuilt their lives following last year’s devastating earthquake. The earthquake claimed more than 180 lives when it struck in February 2011. This followed another earthquake which hit in September 2010. A charitable trust Gap Filler has since been finding creative uses for open spaces, including the pop up dance floor which has sound courtesy of a washing machine that plays tunes from an mp3 player. The Duchess took to the dance floor, accepting an invitation from university student Sam Johnson. A known fan of ballroom dancing show Strictly Come dancing, she and Mr Johnson moved gently to the 1940s swing jazz music.
