A company that performs analysis of mobile ads called FreeWheel has determined that the majority of non-PC mobile video streaming is done over the Apple iPhone and the Apple iPad. A report shows that together, the two devices account for 60% of such video viewing. To reach this conclusion, FreeWheel analyzed more than 14 billion videos that were viewed through ad supported apps, like Hulu.
FreeWheel couldn't give a reason why there is such a large difference in viewing videos over an iOS or Android device. One possibility is that Android tablets are still in their early stage and users aren't bothering to watch videos or do heavy internet browsing with them. The report says that lower sales of Android tablets alone can't account for the difference in the use of iOS and Android tablets for streaming video.
The analysis also showed that users viewing a long-form video were more likely to watch entire ads without skipping over them than those viewing shorter videos. Of course, these longer-form videos contain more ads than shorter clips. FreeWheel also determined that since 2011, the number of videos streamed to mobile viewers has tripled to a total of 1.3 billion.
