Open webOS comes to Android in the form of an app

As promised, HP has recently made webOS open source, allowing the dev community to continue developing Palm's wonderful platform. While we're yet to see anything substantial come out of this project, an interesting video has been published, showing Open webOS running on a Google Nexus S.

Interestingly, the developers have brought the platform to Android in the form of an app. Sadly, because of this, or some other reason, Open webOS seems to be unusable in its current state, as you can see from the video below. It's just very unresponsive, with enormous performance issues, and we feel the Nexus S's dated hardware isn't to blame here. We also aren't sure about this whole concept of the OS running as an app, as this would mean that it has access to a limited amount of resources. Probably that's behind its incredibly slow performance.

We guess the developers have just wanted to show us webOS on an Android phone, even if it's clearly unusable. Unfortunately, even if it comes as a normal, custom ROM for select Android devices, users will have little incentive to try it out, due to the limited app catalog. What we would love to see, though, is some other manufacturers introducing Open webOS-powered handsets to market. Now that will surely shake things up!
