No Turkeys here: PayPal, eBay and Instagram have big Thanksgivings

So what do eBay, PayPal and Instagram all have in common? The trio each had a spectacular Thanksgiving day on Thursday. For example, eBay and PayPal each had huge yearly increases in mobile payment processing. Ebay's mobile transactions volume in the U.S. rose 133% from the 2011 Thanksgiving day while PayPal's global mobile volume soared 173% year-over-year. The most popular time of day to shop globally via Google's online payment service on Thursday was between noon and 1pm Pacific time. That was also the most popular time to upload pictures to Instagram on Thanksgiving (more on Instagram later).

Thanksgiving was no Turkey for eBay, PayPal and Instagram

The most popular city using PayPal on Thursday was Houston, followed by L.A., Chicago, Miami and New York. The actual number of mobile customers using the payment service on Turkey day was up 164% over last year. According to eBay owned GSI Commerce, the total number of mobile sales for the holiday in 2012 increased 170% over last year. The whole shopping from your smartphone or tablet phenomenon is still new enough to allow for triple digit increases year over year.
