Interestingly, when asked about products
she admired, Mayer directly mentioned the iPhone, not Android, although
she did mention Google itself. Mayer says that her vision for Yahoo is
for the company to "have a global suite of products that are truly
excellent," including pillars like "Search, Mail, the home page, News,
Finance, sports… there’s Flickr, there’s Groups, there’s Answers." Most
of those make sense, the interesting one for us was Answers, which is a
great resource that has been overshadowed by companies like Quora and
Mahalo. It'll be interesting to see what Mayer's plans are there.
Mayer
made sure to emphasize mobile, including the fact that the top things
that people tend to do on mobile devices match with Yahoo's strengths
like checking mail, weather, stock quotes, sports scores, watching
videos, sharing photos, and checking the news. Mayer went on to suggest
that Yahoo may be planning an all-in-one app for mobile that would cover
all of those needs, saying that it would be an app that users should
install first.
