If you were looking for a low-end Windows Phone 8 experience from HTC,
it looks like you may be out of luck, because HTC has confirmed that the
HTC 8S is not planned for release in the USA. The logic behind the move
makes some sense though, because Windows Phone 8 devices have already
launched at a very competitive price point.
The
premier Windows Phone handsets like the HTC 8X and Nokia Lumia 920
launched at just $99, so it's hard to imagine that HTC would want to
take away from those sales with a phone that would likely be given away
free on-contract like the 8S. HTC said as much, but in a much more
PR-friendly way by telling Engadget, "With our focus on the Windows
Phone 8X by HTC, the Windows Phone 8S is not currently planned for
distribution in the U.S. market."
