HTC agreed to pay licensing fees to Apple in the 10-year patent infringement settlement

HTC agreed to pay licensing fees to Apple in the 10-year patent infringement settlementDespite the speculations that it might be that Apple and HTC have swapped patent payments as a part of the 10-year deal they reached over the weekend, it seems that HTC might be the only one paying up.

Granted, it had some patent cases against Cupertino, but they were mostly counterattacks for a negotiating ground, as it suffered a few setbacks already, with the judges ruling in Apple's favor.

Now Wall Street Journal sources are reporting that HTC has to indeed pay licensing fees to Apple for its patents, not the other way around, and it was the one that approached Cupertino for a settlement after the court strategy to countersue didn't pan out.

It is not disclosed how much HTC should be paying Apple in the next decade, but the feeling in the Taiwanese headquarters has been one of relief nonetheless, the source confirmed, since the handset maker could finally put the constant legal threat behind it, and focus on its restructuring, necessary as itssmartphone market share fell from 10% to the current 4% in the span of just a year.
