Amazing Spider-Man director on sequel

MARC Webb has discussed his upcoming sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man.

The helmer will return for the first of two sequels, which will again star Andrew Garfield in the dual role of Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

During an interview with Collider, Webb discussed his approach to the sequel, the presence of Oscorp, and the trilogy’s overriding arc, describing Parker’s abandonment by his parents as “the long shadow that’s cast over the three films. I want these films to have a serialised component, and there’s a slow burn to that,” Webb explained, before going on to confirm that the script for the second film is already complete.

“When I was thinking about the universe as a whole - and I talked about this with [screenwriter] Jamie Vanderbilt way back in the day - that all the crazy stuff in this universe emerges from Oscorp.

“Oscorp predates Spider-Man and Peter Parker... Peter’s relationship will evolve with it over time. That was really one of the central components, one of the pieces that tied all these stories together, this relationship with Oscorp.”

It was reported this week that Jamie Foxx will star as the villainous Electro.”I think Electro is an incredibly visual, exciting, dangerous villain,” Webb said. “There is a lot of appealing stuff that is going to happen as the world emerges.”

While Emma Stone will return as Gwen Stacy in the sequel, it has been rumoured that Mary Jane Watson – the love interest played by Kristen Dunst in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man films – will also appear.

The Descendants actress Shailene Woodley is reportedly the frontrunner for the role of Mary Jane, while producers are also seeking to cast the role of Harry Osborn, who was played by James Franco in Raimi’s trilogy.
