Windows Phone 8 SDK now available for you code jockeys

Now that Microsoft has introduced Windows Phone 8, they are now making the Windows Phone 8 SDK available for developers who need the tools to write apps for phones powered by the the latest Microsoft mobile OS build. While the software can be downloaded now, Microsoft will also officially announce its availability during Tuesday afternoon's BUILD conference in Redmond.

There are 125,000 apps in the Windows Phone Marketplace at last count

Some developers have been complaining that they needed an earlier release of the SDK to understand everything that Windows Phone 8 could do so that these capabilities could be written into their apps. The download also includes a copy of Visual Studio Express 2012 edition and works as an add-in to Visual Studio 2012 Professional, Premium or Ultimate editions for Windows Phone. The availability of the SDK should result in some more choices in the Windows Phone Marketplace, which recently announced that it was populated by 125,000 apps.

Requirements for the download include 4GB of free hard drive space, 4GB of RAM and a 64 bit (x64) CPU. To download the Windows Phone 8 Emulator, you need to have Windows Pro 8 or greater on your PC, and a processor that supports Second Level Address Translation (SLAT). The emulator lets you test your work under real life conditions on Windows Phone 8. The SDK will allow developers to build apps for both Windows Phone 8 and Windows Phone 7.5.
