Sony Xperia TL hands-on
The name’s TL, the Sony Xperia TL. That’s what some of the hardcore Sony fans are hoping to hear when 007 is seen with the handset in the upcoming James Bond movie: Skyfall, which will be here in no time at all showing us Bond’s latest adventure. As for the Android powered smartphone itself, Sony is looking to one-up itself after the competitively priced Sony Xperia ion from this past summer.
Although it’s not quite a premier device per se, it’s nonetheless a respectably stacked smartphone that should no doubt keep itself in good light amongst the many mid-range devices out there. Besides from wanting to see Daniel Craig whipping out the Sony Xperia TL in the movies, it’s worth noting that the handset is going to be packaged along with Sony’s own SmartTags to give potential owners a good taste of its NFC capabilities. Furthermore, it seems to be one camera-centric device as well, seeing that it’s packing along a higher than normal 13-megapixel camera.
Honestly, it’s anyone’s guess as to how the Sony Xperia TL will fare when there are so many competitively priced smartphones on the market right now. Still, we never know what kind of pricing will be attached to this one – especially when the Xperia ion surprised us with tis initial $99.99 on-contract price. Will it follow suit and possibly come in at a lower price point?
Initial standouts with the Sony Xperia TL
1. Typical Sony industrial design
Now here’s the thing, we’re liking the sturdy construction of the Sony Xperia TL, but seriously, it seems as though it’s recycling the design of other Xperia devices of the past. Sure, it has an arch to its design, but aside from that, there’s nothing particularly too out of the ordinary with this one.
2. Yes, it’s the James Bond phone
If you’re planning to watch the next James Bond movie, Skyfall, it’s worth noting that this is indeed the handset that 007 will be relying on throughout the movie. Therefore, if you’re a hardened fan of all the Bond movies, you might want to consider picking this one up – especially when the trained agent will be sporting it.
3. Higher than normal 13-megapixel camera
Flexing its muscles in the photo taking department, the Sony Xperia TL is outfitted with an above normal 13-megapixel auto-focus camera with Exmor R sensor, which we’re hoping will deliver some fantastic looking photos and videos.
4. It’s packing similar specs to the Xperia ion
Knowing that this is going to be the latest offering from Sony, it doesn’t necessarily surprise us that the Xperia TL is flaunting specs that are similar to the Xperia ion from this past summer. Specifically, it features a 4.55-inch 720p Reality Display, dual-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, and 4G LTE connectivity.
5. Will it one-up the pricing found with the Xperia ion
Obviously, there’s no arguing the surprise we got when it was first revealed that the Sony Xperia ion was going to be blessed with a $99.99 on-contract price. Taking into account its modest specs, it’s somewhat positioned as a mid-range device nowadays, but more importantly, we’re curious to know how aggressive it’ll be priced when it’s released.
