THE new James Bond film, Skyfall, has scored the second biggest opening weekend in UK box office history as it stormed to number one in 25 countries.
The latest 007 film raked in $32.4 million, making it the second biggest opening weekend ever behind Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2. The astonishing figure means that it is the biggest opening weekend for a film this year so far, according to Deadline.
The Dark Knight Rises ranks second while The Avengers Assemble comes in third. Skyfall also broke the record for the highest ever attendance for a Saturday in the UK. The movie, starring Daniel Craig as the womanising spy, grossed $77.7 million worldwide. It shot to number one in all 25 countries it opened in although it has yet to be released in the US, where it comes out on November 9. Skyfall's opening weekend was 76 per cent bigger than Daniel Craig's first movie as Bond, Casino Royale, and 30 per cent higher than Quantum Of Solace.
The film, directed by Sam Mendes, is tipped to beat Quantum Of Solace's overall box office haul of $586m. Craig has already confirmed that he has signed up to star as 007 in two more films after Skyfall but it looks like producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson are keen for the star to extend his stay in the role. When asked if Craig was definitely set to star in two more James Bond films, Broccoli said: 'At least two!'
Wilson told Metro.co.uk: 'We wouldn't necessarily want to limit ourselves to just two.' Skyfall screenwriter John Logan will reportedly return to pen the script for original two-part follow-up, which won't be based on any Ian Fleming stories.
