
The two Korean companies will release devices with AMOLED and LCD displays, with resolution topping 400ppi. In comparison, the iPhone 5 comes with a screen having a pixel density of 326ppi, which Apple refers to as Retina display.
LG Display was among the first to show a five-inch 440ppi smartphone display in May and chances are the new the International Meeting on Information Display (IMID).
Samsung and LG might also be outpaced by Sony and its C650X Odin, a smartphone that is allegedly coming in December with a high-res 5-inch display.
A couple of factors however might delay the roll-out of the first smartphones with full HD displays. Screen manufacturers like Renesas are facing difficulties that might result in supply shortages. Well, at least we know that the plan is for all that full HD sweetness to break out in H1 2013.
