Samsung Galaxy S III tops the competition in a web browsing battery test

Samsung Galaxy S III tops the competition in a web browsing battery testWhat good is owning a great smartphone if it constantly asking you to feed it electricity. The battery longevity issue is more important than ever today since most new handsets offer LTE connectivity which is known to have an insatiable hunger for energy. Which? tested a number of today's top handsets. Excluded from the competition is the one handset that would probably win hands down, the Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX. With its 3300mAh battery, the device has 21 hours of talk time which will be eclipsed next week when the 32 hour Motorola DROID RAZR MAXX HD launches from Verizon.

Ninety-nine handsets were tested and the average number of minutes the battery lasted while browsing the web was 193. The longest battery life of the devices that were put through the paces was the 359 minutes that the Samsung Galaxy S III lasted. Yes, behind that 4.8 inch screen  is an energy nibbler, biting on carrot sticks. On the other end of the spectrum is the gluttonous HTC Sensation XL which managed just 139 minutes of browsing time on battery.

Behind the Samsung Galaxy S III was the Sony Xperia S with 276 minutes of web time, followed by the 226 minutes that the HTC One X lasted. The Apple iPhone 4S was fourth, going 208 minutes before conking out, followed by the Apple iPhone 5. The latest iteration of Apple's smartphone lasted for 200 minutes while browsing. While it might seem odd that the newer iPhone model rated below last year's variant, keep in mind that the latest model does support LTE.
