Android users of Flipboard have received an update to version 1.9.7 which brings something new and interesting to the flip through news feed app...audio. Click on the white "More" box from the menu, scroll down to Audio and click to enter the world of Flipboard audio. Divided into sections like Books, Tech, Dance and News, Flipboard users can listen to NPR, The Economist, PBS and many, many other choices. Integration with SoundCloud brings tunes to the mix.
The version of Flipboard for Android is made for phones, not tablets although it does run fine on a 7 inch tablet. For those who have never seen the app in action, it is more than just your average RSS reader. You flip through the feeds as though you were reading a glossy magazine and there is even a Twitter feed integrated right into the app. We should add that the update also enhances performance of the app and kills bugs dead.
With the new audio functionality available on Flipboard, it should improve the stickiness of the app which is the length of time that someone uses an app during one session. You can even use the audio while flipping through your news feeds and tweets. If you've already installed Flipboard, the update should be waiting for you at the Google Play Store. Otherwise, you can head to the 'Store' to download the app. Back in August, Flipboard hit 20 million users and said it was adding a new user every second.
